Sew Biz Kids: May - June 2026
Beginner sewers welcome!

Come sew with us and let your child’s creativity shine! The Sew Biz for Kids program encourages young makers to explore their inner designer while learning essential sewing skills in a fun, supportive environment.

Class Details:

Location: Newmarket
Dates: Wednesdays — May: 13, 20, 27 & June 3, 10, 17
Time: 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM

Sessions: 6
Class Fee: $129
Recommended Age: 8 years and up

This Session’s Projects: PJ Shorts + Appliqué Teddy Bear

Students will create a cozy pair of pyjama shorts and an adorable heart appliqué teddy bear to take home!

Project timelines may vary by student. Those who progress more quickly will have the opportunity to complete an additional bonus project.

This six-week session is designed for beginner sewers and focuses on building confidence with both machine and hand sewing. Students will learn:

  • Sewing machine safety and basic operation

  • How to read simple patterns

  • Fundamental sewing techniques

  • Basic hand-sewing skills

Materials & Supplies

  • Sewing machines are provided for use during class
  • Optional kits available for purchase

❗Please bring Basic Sewing Supplies:

  • Scissors and Thread Snips
  • Seam Ripper
  • Pins or Clips
  • 100% Cotton Thread

Note: Students may bring all of their own fabrics instead of purchasing a kit.

If you are bringing your own materials and not purchasing a kit, the following supplies are required:

Teddy Bear:

  • Fleece, cotton or denim fabric (body) 18" X 20"
  • Fleece, cotton, denim or felt, (heart) 5″ X 5″
  • Fleece, felt, or leather fabric scrap or button (nose)
  • Embroidery thread (eyes, mouth)
  • coordinating thread
  • Filling (Poly-fil, pillow stuffing, or similar)

Pj Shorts:

Fabric Requirements:

  • Ages 5–8: 1 metre (1–1.25 yards)
  • Ages 9–12: 1–1.5 metres (1.25–1.75 yards)
    We recommend using cotton or flannel fabrics for best results.

Materials Needed:

  • Elastic (¾”–1” wide, approx. 20–30” depending on waist size)
  • Thread (matching or neutral)

Optional:

  • Fabric chalk or washable marker
  • Seam ripper
