Sew Biz Kids: February – April 2026
Beginner sewers welcome!
Come sew with us and let your child’s creativity shine! The Sew Biz for Kids program encourages young makers to explore their inner designer while learning essential sewing skills in a fun, supportive environment.
Class Details:
Location: Newmarket
Dates: Wednesdays — February 25; March 4, 11, 25; April 1, 8
Time: 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM
Sessions: 6
Class Fee: $129
Recommended Age: 8 years and up
This six-week session is designed for beginner sewers and focuses on building confidence with both machine and hand sewing. Students will learn:

Sewing machine safety and basic operation

How to read simple patterns

Fundamental sewing techniques

Basic hand-sewing skills
Throughout the session, students will work step-by-step on one main project, learning new skills each week as they build their quilt. The class project is a mini quilt - the Baby Heart Log Cabin Quilt by Sew Can She (Caroline Fairbanks).
Finished size: approximately 42" x 42" (final size may vary based on the student’s skill level)
In the final session, students will learn how to properly finish their quilt, including layering, Flip & Turn and quilting techniques, ensuring they take home a completed project they can be proud of.
Materials & Supplies
- Sewing machines are provided for use during class
- Optional quilt kit available for purchase: $45
❗Please bring Basic Sewing Supplies:
- Scissors and Thread Snips
- Seam Ripper
- Pins or Clips
- 100% Cotton Thread
By the end of the session, students will leave with a fully finished quilt and the foundational skills to continue sewing at home with confidence.

Note: Students may bring all of their own fabrics instead of purchasing a kit.
If you are bringing your own materials and not purchasing a kit, the following supplies are required:
- 0.5 m of a coloured fabric(s) (e.g., blue or pink) for the hearts (may be divided into smaller pieces)
- 2 m of a neutral fabric for the background (may be divided into smaller pieces)
